This past weekend, Backyard Theatre opened their show, The Mad Ones. The Mad ones is a newer musical by Kait Kerrigan and Bree Lowdermilk that originally debuted in 2017. This musical follows 18-year-old Samantha Brown, played by Lexi Cooper, as she faces decisions about her future. The Mad Ones will have three more runs this weekend on May 12th, 13th, and 14th. You can buy tickets online or at the door.
Ru and I had the honor of taking cast headshots for the cast and crew of The Mad Ones a few weeks ago, and we had so much fun getting to know the characters in this show! Since the show itself is so new, we got to really get to know these characters for the first time together and create photos that showcase each characters emotions and personalities throughout the show.
Samantha Brown will be played by Lexi Cooper. Lexi was born and raised in Billings and has been involved in local theater since 2011 when she was cast in BTS’s production of Annie. We are so excited to see Lexi as Samantha!
Kelly Manning, Samantha’s best friend, will be played by Macy Doucette. Macy moved to Billings about a year ago, but has been involved in theater basically forever. We think Macy is a great choice for Kelly!
Adam, Samantha’s boyfriend, will be played by Thomas Popiel, who is new to Backyard Theatre, but has been singing and doing theater since he was eight years old! His theater expertise will bring so much to this role!
Beverly, Samantha’s mom, will be played by Chae Clearwood. Chae is also directing this show, making her directing debut with Backyard Theatre. We are so excited for all of Chae’s special touches to this show as both the director and as Beverly!
Meet the guitar player, Tiffany Melia. Tiffany has played the guitar in so many shows around Billings, and always brings so much to the show with her playing!
The stage manager for this show is Samantha Pfeifer! Samantha works for the Billings Symphony and has worked in theater for over 10 years in many different roles. We know she is always a great choice for stage manager, any crew position, or actor!
Aside from taking headshots for the character descriptions, we also pulled out some props and had a lot of fun as individuals and groups! If you want to understand what’s going on in the following photos, you’ll need to go to the show! You still have three more opportunities to see the show this weekend. You don’t want to miss out!
